Clarke, 42, is attempting to cut down on the amount of perfectly good food that is thrown away every day. Her app connects people who happen to have more food than they need — say, a bunch of onions, from which they need only one — with those who may need onions. The food is then exchanged free. The London start-up has more than 500,000 users in 32 countries.
