Nick Grey

Grey, 49, left his job at appliances maker Vax to start making cordless vacuum cleaners in his garage. Worcester-based Gtech, which now makes super-compact cleaners as well as electric bikes and lawnmowers, takes on the might of Dyson, and sales hit £120m last year.
