The concept of GranTurismo
Typically, a grand tourer is a front-engine, two-door coupe with rear-wheel drive — in either a two-seat or four-seat configuration. Born and bred in Italy, the original GranTurismo, Italian for “grand tourer,” was engineered to cover hundreds of miles in style and comfort at high speeds, with enough room to accommodate luggage.
On the one hand, a grand tourer displayed elegance, refinement and craftsmanship; on the other, it showed a rebellious spirit, hunger for performance and need for adventure. Maserati chose to embody this duality, thus creating an intrinsic and intriguing tension.
