The 2026 GT2 European Series season kicks off with a tribute to the centenary of the Trident logo and its history in racing, with a tribute to the single-seater that triumphed in the 1950s with Juan Manuel Fangio at the wheel.
Monza – 29 May 2026 – Maserati is raring to go for its return to the track in the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli 2026, which kicks off on 30 and 31 May at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.
At Italy's historic “Temple of Speed”, Maserati opens a new season as a leading light with five Maserati GT2 cars lined up on the grid and, above all, with the debut of exclusive celebratory liveries – available for both Maserati GT2 racing cars and Maserati GT2 Stradale super sports cars – which pay homage to a century of sporting history and the centenary of the brand's iconic logo: the Trident.
After two successful seasons in the Am class – with consecutive Drivers' and Teams' titles – Maserati confirms its role as a benchmark in the championship, continuing a journey that combines performance, innovation and heritage. A commitment further strengthened by its appointment, for the second year running, as official car supplier of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS, where the Maserati GT2 Stradale and MCPURA will assume the roles of Safety Car and Leading Car respectively.
Special liveries: a bridge between past and future The inaugural round at Monza will be the setting for the world premiere of exclusive liveries created in conjunction with the Maserati Fuoriserie personalisation programme.
Inspired by the legendary Maserati 250F – an authentic expression of the golden age of Formula 1, these liveries celebrate a single-seater that has written some of the most iconic chapters in motorsport history. With Juan Manuel Fangio at the wheel, the 250F won two Formula 1 world titles, in 1954 and 1957, as well as memorable victories in Argentina, Belgium, Monaco and France, helping to consolidate its legend. Its other big-name drivers also included Stirling Moss, who triumphed in Monaco and Italy in 1956, whereas the 250F was much loved by Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first woman to qualify for a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1958.
The liveries will be available for both a one-off Maserati GT2 and for the road-legal Maserati GT2 Stradale, emphasising the intrinsic bond between track and road that has always formed part of the Trident’s DNA. A concept that takes concrete shape in the philosophy of “from track to road”: racing as a laboratory for research and development, to create technologies and solutions to be transferred to road models.
The project celebrates a double anniversary of great symbolic value: the centenaries of both the Maserati logo and of the first time the brand competed in a race. In 1926, the Maserati Tipo 26 – the first car in history to bear the Trident logo on the bonnet – took part in and won (in its class) the Targa Florio with Alfieri Maserati at the wheel. A century of passion, innovation and success that has now resulted in the Maserati GT2, the car that returned the brand to triumph in the covered-wheel championships, making it the natural heir to a timeless tradition.
A special Maserati GT2 with 250F livery will be on display in the Monza paddock during the GT World Challenge round.
GT2 European Series 2026: For round 1 this season, Maserati will be able to count on a significant presence with five Maserati GT2 cars fielded by three different teams. The Pro-Am class will include a crew from LP Racing and DINAMIC Motorsport, with another crew from LP Racing and the new i4Race team in the Silver class. At the same time, Philippe Prette from the LP Racing team – champion in 2024 and 2025 in Am-Class – will be returning to the new Master class to defend his title at the wheel of the number 1 Maserati GT2.
The race weekend will adopt the format it took two years ago, with two free practice sessions, two qualifiers and two 50-minute races, confirming an intense and competitive show from the year’s first event onwards.
To follow Monza, the calendar will continue with another four events on the circuits at Spa-Francorchamps (20-21 June), Misano (18-19 July), Zandvoort (19-20 September) and Portimão (17-18 October).
At the same time, involvement in the SRO GT Academy project confirms the brand’s focus on talent development, offering new opportunities to drivers emerging on the international scene. The driver of the GT2 cars who wins the SRO GT Academy title will be given the option to race fully funded, in the GT World Challenge Europe – Endurance Cup 2027.
