MASERATI GT2 EUROPEAN SERIES POWERED BY PIRELLI

At least four Maseratis will be lining up on the 2026 starting grid. The i4Race team will be making its debut in a car from the House of the Trident. LP Racing and Dinamic Motorsport also confirmed.

Modena, 27 March 2026 – Once again in 2026, the Maserati GT2 is renewing its commitment to the GT2 European Series Championship Powered by Pirelli. As such, the Modena-based car manufacturer confirms not only its participation in a series in which it was one of the true stars in 2025, but also the racing spirit that has marked the brand out ever since its historic, victorious debuts. This year, we celebrate 100 years since the first time a car raced with the Trident logo on its bonnet (a Tipo 26 that won its class at the 1926 Targa Florio, with Alfieri Maserati at the wheel). 

After the brand’s entry in the 2023 GT2 championship, its 2024 appearance in the Ultimate Cup Series and its participation last week in the GTX class of the 12 Hours of Mugello (part of the 24H Series), Maserati's return to closed-wheel racing is now consolidated by its repeat inclusion in the GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli, as well as by confirmation – for the time being – of four Maserati GT2s on the starting grid.

One of the drivers at the starting line will be Philippe Prette from LP Racing, defending champion in the Am Class, after he took the title in the 2024 season. The team led by Luca Pirri will also field a second car, entered in the Pro-Am Class and running as car no. 8, to be driven by Niccolò Pirri, a 17-year-old talent and the youngest Maserati driver on the grid who took part in last year’s tests at Misano. He will be stepping up from Formula 4 to represent the Trident in his quest to win the SRO GT Academy, and will be joined by experienced driver Thomas Yu Lee in his return to LP Racing after previously competing for the team in the Creventic 6 Hours in 2022.

Also confirmed, the crew consisting of Mauro Calamia and Roberto Pampanini, in the car entered by Dinamic Motorsport in the Pro-Am Class. In 2025, it battled for final victory, finishing third in the drivers' standings and as runner-up among the teams. 

Finally, flying Maserati colours or the first time in this championship, Belgium’s i4Race team will line up with a crew currently confirmed to include driver Antoine Potty.

The 2026 European series will be even more exciting, with the possibility of other Maserati GT2s entering in the coming months. In the meantime, the Trident brand having signed up for the new SRO GT Academy project has already been confirmed. The SRO GT Academy title will mean a GT2 driver from the House of the Trident (or another brand) will be rewarded with a funded place in the 2027 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.

 

Vincent Biard, Head of Maserati Corse, noted: “Once again this year, we will have the opportunity to demonstrate the competitiveness of our Maserati GT2 in the GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli. Maserati's history is made up of races and successes, taken by combining elegance and a sporting spirit. Not only an activity for us, our origins lie in racing. With this in mind, we have embarked on the GT2 journey and more generally on new challenges in motorsport, where we can now extend to endurance races thanks to the dedicated kit. The goal for the 2026 GT2 championship is to confirm the performance demonstrated by our cars while they work to leave their mark. If we could win the title in our centenary year, it would be fantastic”.

Five rounds are scheduled for the GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli, with the first with two races to be held at the Temple of Speed in Monza on 30 and 31 May. The next stop will be Belgium, at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit for the second round on 20 and 21 June. Back to Italy a month later, to the Romagna Riviera at the Misano World Circuit, on 18 and 19 July. After the summer break, the next meet will be in the Netherlands, at the Zandvoort circuit on 19 and 20 September; the season will then end in Portimão, on the Algarve, for the last round on 17 and 18 October.
