With Potty on the Belgian circuit, the House of the Trident took a victory in Silver and two runner-up positions overall. Two podiums for Prette too in the Masters class. The Iron Dames with the crew of Bovy and Van den Hengel crew were also on the track
Spa-Francorchamps – 21 June 2026 – On the historic track at Spa, Maserati Corse took two runner-up positions overall, plus a victory and another two second placings in class, two more second places in class, in round 2 of the 2026 GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli. On the Belgian track, home driver Antoine Potty (i4Race) and Monaco’s Philippe Prette (LP Racing) achieved excellent results for the Trident. In the overall standings, the Belgian took the second step on the podium on both Saturday and Sunday, with first and second places in Silver. The experienced Prette took second place in the Masters category, in Race 1 and Race 2. At Spa, the Iron Dames, the female crew made up of Belgium's Sara Bovy and The Netherlands’ Laura Van den Hengel, also took to the track for the first time in a Maserati GT2, coinciding with the centenary of the birth of Maria Teresa De Filippis, the first woman to qualify and compete in a Formula 1 Grand Prix, behind the wheel of a Maserati in 1958.
Maserati Corse’s commitment to this championship is further strengthened by its appointment, for the second year running, as official car supplier of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS, with the Maserati GT2 Stradale and MCPURA assuming the roles of Safety Car and Leading Car respectively.
The House of the Trident recently also announced a new partnership in this championship, with Bianchet, as part of the collaboration between Maserati Corse, the watchmaking Maison and the teams. Back in April, a collaboration was announced that led to the creation of the UltraFino Maserati Flying Tourbillon, an exclusive watch produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces, as a tribute to the encounter between MCPura and Bianchet for the centenary of the Trident logo.
In Race 1 on Saturday, Maserati took two podiums. In Silver, at the start Potty put up a good defence of his front row position, despite pitfalls. His very smooth race saw him finish as the runner-up. In Masters, Prette was one of the true leading names in the race: at the start, after contact between the cars in front, he was forced to broaden his trajectory and fell back a few positions. Back on the tarmac, he aggressively set out to hunt down those in front of him and overtook a couple of times. On the straight, duelling for runner-up position in the category, he came into contact with an opponent but emerged from the brawl unscathed. The experienced Monaco driver then hoisted himself up to the second step of the podium with another overtake four minutes from the end. However, the Maserati drivers in Pro Am were really unlucky. Yu Lee was also involved in the various clashes at the start; he had to go into the pits for mechanics to work on his car, followed by a run-up race completed by Pirri, if in eighth. Van den Hengel pushed in the early stages, remaining glued to the possibility of a podium. Then came the twist: a car breaking down at the entrance to the pit lane prevented four cars behind from entering the pits, including the female pairing who also lost time. Bovy still overtook very well Les Combes, resulting in fifth place.
In Race 2 on Sunday, Belgium’s Potty and Bovy started side by side in the third row, with the i4Race driver putting up a good defence from pitfalls: following the Safety Car, he took the lead in the Silver category, as did Prette in Masters. After a series of pit stops, the situation remained unchanged, with Bovy committed to making positions back up. Potty then became embroiled in a three-way challenge for the top in Silver. At first, he succumbed to attacks from his opponents but – during a lap ten minutes from the end – he overtook twice in one fell swoop, giving him the lead in Silver. Unsatisfied, the home driver went hell for leather in pursuit of the first step on the podium, arriving at the chequered flag behind the winner by only a few tenths of a second. In Masters, Prette took second place, whereas in Pro Am, Van den Hengel finished the all-female crew's race in seventh. Also in Pro Am, a mistake in the early stages of the race unfortunately forced Pirri to retire.
Vincent Biard, Head of Maserati Corse, stated: “We are proud to be a leading name in the GT2 European Series 2026, a championship that continues to grow and one in which we strongly believe, as do SRO Motorsports Group. This weekend at Spa, we once again confirmed the competitiveness of the Maserati GT2, thanks to a high-performance, reliable car that continues to gain the trust of teams and drivers, and has now led to the victory of the i4Race team's Antoine Potty in his class”.
Vincent Biard concluded: “A further source of pride is the debut of the first all-female crew in a Maserati GT2 with Iron Dames: an achievement that recalls the pioneering spirit of Maria Teresa De Filippis, the first woman in history to qualify for a Formula 1 Grand Prix at the wheel of a Maserati 250F. In the year in which we are celebrating Maserati's 100 years in racing, it is especially significant to see how our sporting heritage continues to write new chapters in our history on the track”.
To follow Monza, the calendar will continue with another three events on the circuits at Misano (18-19 July), Zandvoort (19-20 September) and Portimão (17-18 October).
