The Trident has ended the championship on a high note, with the success of Louis and Philippe Prette in Race 2 ahead of Pirri/Rosina, winners in Silver. Potty came first in Silver in Race 1, Yu Lee in Masters in Race 2. Bovy/van den Hengel were also on the podium
Portimão – 18 October 2026 – Maserati Corse ended the final round of the 2026 GT2 European Series season powered by Pirelli on a high note, in the year of its first centenary in motorsport. On the Portuguese track, the Trident conquered five category podiums in Race 1 (one victory, three runner-up positions and a third placing) and four in Race 2 (three class victories and a third place), for a total of nine podium positions.
Topping off the weekend was overall victory in Race 2 for the father-and-son pairing of Philippe and Louis Prette (LP Racing). The more experienced Philippe, who ran in the previous stage at Zandvoort, was named champion in the Masters category. This time, with the title already under his belt, he took to the track in Pro Am. Prette senior and junior finished ahead of another LP Racing crew, made up of Niccolò Pirri and Stefano Rosina. During the first event in the morning, they finished third in the overall rankings.
Maserati, maintaining its presence on the 4.6 km of Portimão with six crews, also took pole in both qualifiers, taking the first two spots on the grid in the first race and the first four positions in the second.
The Iron Dames, Sarah Bovy and Laura Van den Hengel, also returned to Portugal, rising to the podium in their respective class. Antoine Potty (i4Race), after missing the previous Dutch round, returned to racing by racking up points in both races: in the morning he took second place overall (and first in Silver). Thomas Yu Lee (LP Racing) won Masters in Race 2. Roberto Pampanini and Mauro Calamia (DINAMIC Motorsport) also took to the track in Portugal, coming fourth in Pro Am in the afternoon event.
Maserati Corse’s commitment to this championship has been further strengthened by its appointment, for the second year running, as official car supplier of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS, with the Maserati GT2 Stradale and MCPURA assuming the roles of Safety Car and Leading Car respectively.
Maserati GT2 also made its debut in GT America powered by AWS with a bang, with two overall victories at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Fielded by the Risi Competizione team and driven by Peter Dempsey, the number 100 car won both 40-minute races, held on 10 and 11 October.
At the starting grid for Race 1 on Sunday morning, the front row featured the Trident GT2s, with Potty on pole and Pirri starting from the second spot. The leading duo got off to a good start, with the young Italian Pirri counter-overtaking very well to defend his second position. In the middle of the race, a safety car triggered a whirlwind of a pit stop. At the restart, the Trident cars put on a show. In the overall rankings, Potty came second, with Prette senior and junior on the third step of the podium and Pirri/Rosina in fourth. In Silver, Potty came first, with Pirri/Rosina as the runners-up. In Pro Am, the Prettes crossed the finish line second, whereas the Iron Dames van den Hengel/Bovy finished third. In Masters, his decent performance in the race enabled Yu Lee to finish second.
In the second race on Sunday afternoon, after a superb qualifier, Maserati took up the first two rows: Louis Prette on pole, then Potty, Calamia and Rosina. In a race full of twists and turns, the spoils obtained by the Trident were substantial. Overall victory for Louis and Philippe Prette, ahead of Pirri/Rosina, with the latter pairing winning in their class (Potty came third). Yu Lee, having made a decent comeback, triumphed in Masters to finish off a memorable weekend for Maserati.
Vincent Biard, Head of Maserati Corse: “This season finale is the best way to celebrate another significant year for Maserati GT2, one in which Maserati celebrates 100 years in motorsport. Seeing so many different cars and teams compete with the Trident is a source of great pride for us. The results obtained here in Portimão once again confirm the competitiveness of the Maserati GT2 and its ability to stand as a leading light, with various teams and drivers. Together with Philippe Prette's third title running, this is the reward for Maserati Corse’s commitment. We firmly believe in the GT2 European Series, and we aim to continue to grow in this championship, by consolidating GT2 and looking ahead to the future with the development of Project GT4”.
