John McGrath and Maserati join forces to set new luxury standard in Canberra

Maserati and John McGrath have joined forces to set a new standard in Canberra for luxury and exclusivity with an all-new $14 million Canberra home for one of the most historic and legendary car marques in the world following the opening of John McGrath Maserati Canberra on Phillip’s Melrose Drive.

“It is an honour to be given responsibility for Maserati and to do so in the National Capital makes it, without a doubt, a career highlight,” says John McGrath, Managing Director of John McGrath Maserati. “Maserati is a byword for everything that makes the car industry so special, be it the ultimate in luxury, performance, design, style, exclusivity or a unique history on and off the race track – Maserati has it all. To represent Maserati and to set a new level customer service in Canberra that matches this unique brand is both a tremendous responsibility and a unique challenge, indeed it is one for which my entire career has prepared me!”

Designed by Brian Foskett and built by Capcorp Construction, the John McGrath Auto Group has built the $14 million John McGrath Maserati facility at 170 Melrose Drive, Phillip. Maserati Canberra combines the ideal facility to display Maserati’s range of sports cars, sports saloons and SUVs with the finest Italian materials and furniture in a showroom that is matched by a workshop with the latest technology and service equipment. The showroom sets a new benchmark for luxury car dealerships while workshop offers a peerless level of technical sophistication.

“The new building and everything it contains is, really, just the starting point,” explains Mr. McGrath. “To achieve the full Maserati experience, the exclusivity, the dedication to detail, the unrivaled luxury requires staff of the highest caliber and I believe we have brought together a team on both the sales and service sides that will make Maserati proud back in Italy. Under General Manager Robert Janssen is a team of people who I know will redefine customer service in Canberra, be it the factory-trained technicians, our sales and marketing specialists and right down to how everyone has to know how to make the perfect Italian coffee!”

Maserati’s expansion into Canberra comes as the Italian car maker celebrates increasing its Australian sales six-fold over six years with the arrival of new modelssuch as the Ghibli sports sedan and the Levante luxury SUV as well as growth in sales of legendary sports cars and the unique Quattroporte. To ensure that this sales growth has not been at the expense of the exclusive and personalized luxury customer service for which Maserati is famed, it has completely revitalized its Australian dealer group as well as adding additional dealers in Sydney and, just last month, on the Gold Coast.

“Canberra, with its higher than average luxury car ownership, some of the best driving roads in Australia nearby and the important requirement for a service point of existing customers in Canberra, was natural place for Maserati’s next expansion,” explains Glen Sealey, Chief Operating Officer of Maserati Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. “No less a natural choice was working with John McGrath to bring Canberra’s Maserati dealership to fruition. He is very much a legend in the Australian automotive industry and it is a status that has been built on delivering the best customer service, knowing what customers demand and willing to make the investment so that he can fully deliver everything that is expected of a car maker as unique as Maserati. I have no doubt that the combination of Maserati and John McGrath will be provide Canberra car buyers with an exclusive, sumptuous experience unlike any other.”

The Maserati range now encompasses five models. The flagship Maserati Quattroporte which, in its original form laid down the blueprint for a racing car powered, luxury sedan. A status it maintains today. The Maserati sports cars, the GranTurismo sports coupé and the GranCabrio luxury convertible are the epitome of what has made Maserati a legendary producer of road cars and clearly carry the DNA of the racing cars that came before them. The Maserati Ghibli coupé has introduced a whole new generation to the sensual pleasures of Maserati ownership in a new market sector.

“I envy our new owners in Canberra,” says Mr Sealey. “Not only is the city surrounded by wonderful drivers’ roads, whether it’s the Paddys River and Tidbinbilla Roads for short drive or the sublime Snowy Mountains Highway for a longer trip, they now have access, thanks to Maserati Canberra, to the source of the best cars in the world, backed by superb levels of customer service, to fully exploit and enjoy both the roads and their Maseratis!”
