Maserati MSG RACING joining Formula-E

Maserati Corse returns to motor racing’s world stage for the first time in 60 years as it joins the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in 2023, the first ever Italian brand in the series.
In partnership with the Monaco Sports Group and blending its rich heritage with a bold vision of fearless innovation, Maserati MSG Racing will bring future-focused performance to Formula E, powered by the audacity to dream, and new attitudes to defy, disrupt and redefine by fighting at the front in motorsport’s most competitive arena.
The Formula E championship will provide a platform to amplify Maserati’s Folgorerange, a new chapter and an electrification programmethat reflects Pure Maserati, Pure Luxury and Pure Performance. Together, Formula E and the Folgorerange will help Maserati achieve its ambition “to be the world’s most desired car brand”.

Formula - E the Championship

Formula E is the world’s first all-electric international street racing series.
Its mission? To showcase the exciting innovation of the latest sustainable mobility solutions, driving electrification to fore in the race for a better, cleaner future.

Rules and regulation

Each E-Prix follows a familiar one-day format: two practice sessions, qualifying (including a thrilling and unique head-to-head knockout tournament for the top places) and ultimately the race, over a predetermined number of laps, with each race lasting approximately 45 minutes.
Some events are ‘Double header’ races, where two E Prix are held over a weekend.
During the race, drivers can take advantage of Attack Mode, giving each drivers an extra 50kW of power, armed by driving over a special Activation Zone on the circuit off the racing line.
No charging is allowed during the races, so the challenge is for drivers to ensure they conserve enough energy to last the duration, making efficiency key.

Shakedown

qualifying

At most E-Prix, a shakedown session is held on a Friday – one day before the main event. Although the time is limited, shakedown provides drivers and teams with a key window of opportunity to test the car’s systems and reliability before race day.
During this time, motorsport’s governing body, the FIA, also carry out their own checks on the track layout and kerbing, based upon feedback from the race’s competitors.

Qualifying

Qualifying determines the starting order for each Formula E race, and sees drivers push performance and speed to the limit. The session is run in two groups of 11 drivers and sees the fastest four drivers from each group go head-to-head in the fight for pole position.

This innovative duel stage adopts an elimination format, with drivers competing in Quarter and Semi-Finals, until only two drivers are left to compete in the Final. Whoever wins this duel will start from pole position, and secure three World Championship points.
