Ghibli Ermenegildo Zegna Edition Concept Premier and Maserati Quattroporte S Q4 star at the Shanghai Auto Show

In a year of consolidation in the run-up to the launch of the new products in 2016, Maserati is exhibiting at the Shanghai Auto Show

Maserati is exhibiting at the Shanghai Auto Show with the China premiere of the Maserati Ghibli Ermenegildo Zegna Edition Concept, which takes the stage alongside the sumptuous yet versatile all-wheel-drive 2015 Maserati Quattroporte S Q4, supported by the complete product range of the various Quattroporte and Ghibli models and the centennial editions of sporty GranTurismo Centennial and GranCabrio.

2015, A Year of Consolidation

After the successful launches of the six generation Quattroporte and all-new Ghibli in 2013, following the remarkable centennial celebrations in 2014, Maserati is now becoming a true global player with a total sales of approximately 36,500 cars worldwide in 2014, an increase of 136% compared to 2013 and almost 6 times the sales figure for 2012.

China market, with 9,400 unites and growth of 148% compared to 2013, confirmed its status as Maserati’s second largest market. It is a growth based on 43 dealership expansion and sales boosted by the best-selling Quattroporte and Ghibli versions equipped with 330HP Twin Turbo engine and rear-wheel drive.

The exciting momentum of 2014 will be sustained in 2015 with the introduction of the new edition of Quattroporte and Ghibli, which strengthens the sustantial representation of the brand’s range. Maserati China is dedicated to the enhancement of high quality product, supreme service and customer experience offerings that ensures steady growth of businss in China and sets the solid foundation for a new height of success in the year to come.

Maserati Ghibli Ermenegildo Zegna Edition Concept

The Maserati Ghibli Ermenegildo Zegna Edition Concept shines at the Shanghai stand: the harmony of opposites, where a stylistic synthesis between sophisticated design and technological dynamism creates interiors with a strong contemporary character. It is the natural evolution of the partnership between these two historic Italian brands following last year’s very successful launch of the Maserati Quattroporte Ermenegildo Zegna Limited Edition (which was limited to one-hundred units). With Ghibli now leading the Trident’s success in China, as the best-selling model within the Maserati range, it was the perfect choice for the marque’s latest concept design innovation.

Trivero-based fashion house Ermenegildo Zegna conceptualized the bespoke Ghibli S Q4 in close collaboration with Maserati’s design and engineering team, applying unique content and material applications never seen before. The result is a saloon with a dynamic and contemporary look, fashioned for the detail-oriented enthusiast and tailored for connoisseurs of luxury. The Ghibli Zegna serves to give renewed life to a current product, and features an exclusive new colour, Azzurro Astro and 20” wheels in a colour developed ad hoc. The interior has been designed to offer the ultimate in style and distinction, with Zegna-inspired materials and trims with special contrast colour combinations using the finest Italian leather and 100% Italian natural fibre mulberry silk inserts, which give it a distinctive, elegant personality. Silk, an inherently sophisticated material, is further embellished by the hand-stitched macro-chevron; on the door panel, too, the matching salt-pepper silk Jersey is enhanced by alternating rib embroidery.

Maserati Quattroporte S Q4

The show-stealer is the package of the Twin Turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine with 410 horse power mounted on the recently introduced Quattroporte S Q4, to deliver another distinct performance point for the rear wheel driven Quattroporte 330 hp and Quattroporte GTS 530 hp, already available on the market. The Twin Turbo V6 engine utilizes much of the Twin Turbo V8’s already-proven technology, including its variable valve timing, its valve drive system and its direct fuel injection.

If a choice of two versions wasn’t enough, the Quattroporte now also offers the option of the Q4 all-wheel drive system to create the safest all-weather performance and high grip car in Maserati’s history. The Q4 system delivers the responsiveness of a traditional Maserati rear-wheel drive combined with the added security that only an all-wheel drive can bring in critical situations, almost without creating extra fuel consumption. The system leaves the front wheels passive until they are needed to help with traction and then they are instantly and intelligently engaged. The Maserati Q4 all-wheel-drive system is available with the V6 410hp engine and perfectly matches the grand touring qualities expected of a high performance Maserati sedan, whatever the road conditions.

The sophisticated Maserati Q4 system has been designed to enhance the high-performance, grand touring qualities of the Quattroporte, and offer absolute safety and genuine all-weather capability, whatever the road conditions. The Quattroporte S Q4 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and delivers 550 Nm of torque and a top speed of 283 km/h, while retaining competitive emission and consumption figures: 246 g/km and 10.5lt/100 km, both on the combined cycle.

Accommodating the two powerful engines and the large, spacious, luxuriously appointed cabin remains at the heart of the Quattroporte’s design, which is dominated by its long, powerful nose. Its concave Trident grille also provides a clear link to both the outgoing Quattroporte and the current GranTurismo.

The interior of the new Quattroporte unites refined, clean styling with state-of-the-art technology and a timeless sporting character. The increases in the size of the Quattroporte have delivered a huge evolution in roominess for the front and, especially, the rear passengers. Its longer wheelbase has allowed Maserati to add more rear legroom, more shoulder room for all passengers and more luggage capacity. While the standard equipment is sumptuous, Maserati also provides an exceptional degree of personalisation with a vast range of materials for the client to choose from, including wood, carbon fibre, leather, Alcantara and numerous optional choices. All helping to make this car the benchmark for high quality engineering, supercar performance and limousine comfort.

Also on display on the Maserati stand is a substantial representation of the Brand’s range, with the luxurious Quattroporte GTS and Ghibli in special paint version, alongside the Centennial Editions of the GranTurismo MC Stradale and GranCabrio MC.

Maserati Profile

Maserati is one of the most fascinating car production companies with a long history of appeal, tradition and sporting success. It was founded in Bologna by Alfieri Maserati on 1 December 1914 and established as a mechanical workshop named ‘Officine Alfieri Maserati’. In 1926 Maserati was transformed from a workshop, modifying or developing the vehicles of other companies, into a company designing, building and selling its own. The Maserati brothers adopted the symbol of the Trident, created by the artist of the family Mario Maserati and inspired by the famous statue of Neptune in Bologna, and made it the logo synthesising the new company in a single image. At the end of the 1930s, following the acquisition of the company by Adolfo Orsi, a businessman from Modena, Maserati moved to Modena to the current site in Viale Ciro Menotti.

Maserati has been part of the Fiat Group – now FCA – since 2005 and is a prestigious brand in the sector of sports and luxury saloon cars. It can be found in more than 70 countries, where it continues to bear witness to Italian sophistication, elegance and style around the world. Today the factory in Viale Ciro Menotti, Modena, and the Maserati Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant, inaugurated on 30 January 2013 in Grugliasco, are able to guarantee the highest technical and quality standards.

Maserati celebrated the start of 2013 with the presentation of the sixth generation Quattroporte at the Detroit Motor Show and with the Ghibli, the new top of the range saloon which marks Maserati’s entrance into the E segment of the market, at the Shanghai Auto Show. The sporty Ghibli saloon and Quattroporte limousine feature V6 and V8 Twin-Turbo engines with power outputs ranging from 330 to 530hp. There is also a Q4 all-wheel drive version as well as the recently introduced V6 Turbo Diesel with 275hp.

The range is completed by the GranTurismo coupe and the convertible GranCabrio version; equipped with aspirated V8 engines with 405-460hp they are able to offer the comfort typical of Maserati GT cars, designed to accompany passengers on pleasant journeys at a fast pace and in a comfortable and elegant way.

2014 was a very special year for Maserati as the company celebrated its centennial and, with 36,500 units delivered, a record number of vehicles sold. At the Geneva Auto Show a special concept car named after the founder of the company, the Alfieri, was presented to mark the anniversary and to introduce the main design features of new models to come.
