2019 RORC Caribbean 600

A new success for Maserati Multi 70 and Giovanni Soldini

The RORC Caribbean Race is renowned as one of the most complex and challenging races in ocean racing.

Starting and finishing in Antigua, the race course is 600 miles long and heads North as far as Saint Martin and South to Guadeloupe, taking in 11 islands in the Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean, including Barbuda, Nevis, Saba and Saint Barth.

The Italian Team set a new race record: 1 day, 6 hours and 49 minutes Their direct rival Argo crossed the finish line 7 minutes later

Maserati Multi 70 was the first to cross the finish line of the 11th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 winning Line Honours Multihulls and setting the new race record. After racing neck and neck with American MOD 70 Argo for the last 30 miles, Maserati Multi 70 finished the race with an elapsed time of 1 day, 6 hours, 49 minutes and 0 seconds. Argo crossed the finish line at 20.56 04” local time, 7 minutes after Maserati Multi 70.

RORC Caribbean 600 has started

Giovanni Soldini and Maserati Multi 70 set off for the 11th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600.

Under a sunny sky, with 25 knots of wind from South-East and waves between 2 and 3 meters, Maserati Multi 70 crossed the starting line after her direct rival Argo, skippered by Jason Carroll, but after a few minutes the Italian trimaran caught up with Argo and overtook her.

In this edition of the RORC Caribbean 600, Maserati Multi 70, which is in flying mode, will compete against American MOD 70 Argo in the new class Multi/MOD 70. The Royal Ocean Racing Club exceptionally created this class for the two trimarans, following the Italian Team’s decision to agree to the American Team’s request to postpone the start for a few hours, allowing them to finish the repair work after they capsized during a training regatta on Friday.

“The weather conditions are favourable, there will be a stable and strong Trade Wind, which should allow us to beat the record. The delayed start is no help to us, but our main goal is to have a great race against Argo and we are happy they were able to make it to the starting line. Aboard Argo is a very strong Team, with Brian Thompson, who brings with him all his experience aboard Phaedo3, and François Gabart, one of the strongest sailors of the moment: I’m sure it’s going to be a great challenge”

Maserati Multi 70 and Giovanni Soldini are ready for the RORC Caribbean 600

Following a positive 2018, Giovanni Soldini and Maserati Multi 70’s 2019 racing season starts with the participation in the 11th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600, the 600-miles-long race, organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, around 11 islands in the Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean. The regatta will start on Monday February 18th.

The 79 boats that have entered the regatta will start from Fort Charlotte, Antigua, heading North, they will pass Barbuda, Nevis, Saba and Saint Barth before rounding Saint Martin and heading South towards Guadeloupe. After rounding the island, the fleet will head back North, touching the last mark off Barbuda before sailing back to Antigua towards the finish line. The course of the race features a great variety of currents and winds, which makes it a very interesting and challenging regatta.
