Second row for Bartels/Bertolini's Maserati MC12

Tomorrow morning's Qualifying Race will see the N.1 Maserati MC12, driven by Bartels/Bertolini, line up in third behind the two Aston Martins.

In pole will be Stefan Mucke and his partner at San Luis, Jose Maria Lopez, the Argentine who knows the circuit well. In second are their Hexis AMR team mates Makcwiecki/Yann Clairay.

In was a good result for the reigning champions. Bartels/Bertolini can exploit their starting position to score points in the Qualifying Race and so secure the Drivers title in the morning. Their main rivals, Turner/Enge in the N.7 Aston Martin, could not get out of Q1 and are seventeenth on the grid. It will be an uphill battle for the Maserati crew's rivals

After all doing superbly in Q1, the other Maseratis made it through to Q2 but went no further. So Pier Guidi/Verdonck, from Triple H Team Hegersport, will start from eleventh; the other black and green car, crewed by Bernoldi/Ramos, is in thirteenth with Heger/Mueller's black and white MC12 in sixteenth

There are now only two hours left in the championship: 60 minutes for the Qualifying Race and 60 for the Championship Race. Things could be settled in the Drivers and Teams championships as early as the morning while the Manufacturers title will only be decided after the afternoon race.
