Interlagos - BRA

Pole position for Bernoldi in the N.2 Maserati MC12

For the third occasion in a row, a Brazilian was the fastest driver on the track.

This time around it was the qualifying session to decide the grid positions for the Qualifying Race and the man in pole is Enrique Bernoldi. Driving the N.2 Maserati MC12 fielded by the Vitaphone Racing Team, Bernoldi clocked a time of 1:35.076.

Bernoldi managed to snatch pole from the Lamborghini driven by Schwager/Pastorelli (1:32.553) with two quick laps.

The N.2 car was the only Maserati that made it through to Q3 thanks to the third best time set by Bernoldi's partner and fellow Brazilian, Xandinho Negrao.

Also in action in Q2 was the N.34 Maserati from Triple H Team Hegersport with Chico Longo on board; earlier, Daniel Serra had posted the best time in Q1.

Bartels/Bertolini's N.1 car only ran in Q1 (and will start from nineteenth) as did the N. 33 Maserati crewed by Heger/Mueller (twenty-third).
