Abu Dhabi - UAE

Yas Marina Circuit

The Yas Marina Circuit, situated on an island of the same name 30 km from Abu Dhabi, is one of the most modern in the world. Designed by specialist Hermann Tilke, it packs in a surprising number of novel features, some of which are firsts like the tunnel exit from the pit lane that dips under the track. Another novelty is the run off area that borders turn 7 and stretches under the stand.

The track itself is backed up by 40 pit lane garages and floodlights that are bright enough for racing at night.

Inaugurated in October 2009, the track measure 5.55 km when it is at its longest: there are 21 curves, 9 right and 12 left-handers. Sector one is made up of quick turns 1, 2 and 3 that have to be taken at the right tempo to build up speed. Further up the track, the two right hand turns, 15 and 16, are the trickiest with the race wall skimming the track.

Despite having a home straight that measures over a kilometre (1178 metres), the layout calls for a medium-high aerodynamic load because of the many tight curves. This type of curve also means that the cars driving this circuit also need to have precise front-end control.

The track can be split into two separate circuits: one 3.1 km long and the other 2.4 km. They can be used at the same time to host different events.
