Bertolini/Bartels on the podium in race 1

Race 1 – The two days of racing at the Bucharest City Challenge counted as the sixth round of the FIA-GT.

The meet kicked off with the two hour-long qualifying sessions held in the evening. During the sessions, the two Vitaphone Racing MC12s, currently leading both the Drivers’ and Teams’ standings, showed just how pacy they were as Andrea Bertolini/Michael Bartels took third and Miguel Ramos/Alexander Negraõ fourth. The three kilometre long city circuit snakes around the Romanian parliament building, a layout that seemed to suit Bertolini/Bartels.

The pairing set the third fastest qualifying time even though they had 105 kg of ballast on board following their win at Spa-Francorchamps. After a steady drive, the duo claimed third place, 23” down on eventual winner Deletraz. The other Vitaphone Racing MC12 also did well with Negraõ, who started from fifth, overtaking Kumpen on lap 21. After collecting yet more championship points, Bertolini/Bartels still lead the Drivers’ standings while Vitaphone Racing have the advantage in the Teams’ championship.

MC12 on the podium also in race 2

Race 2 - Two Maserati MC12s made the podium at Bucharest for race 2 of the City Challenge.

Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels mirrored their third place from yesterday despite having over 100 kg of ballast to deal with. The two Vitaphone Racing drivers made no mistakes in a convincing race. Miguel Ramos and Alexander Negraõ stuck with the leaders all the way as they improved on their fourth spot in race 1 in finishing second. Negraõ got off to a flying start as he swept past Bertolini, laying the foundations for Ramos to close out only 9"964 off winning driver Marcel Fässler, this despite annoying gearbox problems and overheating brakes.

After a profitable weekend, Bertolini/Bartels still hold the lead overall by 12.5 points. In second is the Ramos/Negraõ pairing with the Corvette outfit of Gollin/Hezemans 16 points down on the leading pace. Vitaphone Racing still heads the Teams’ standings.
