The star of the third round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC in the English Brands Hatch racetrack is undoubtedly Alessandro Pier Guidi, who, after getting two pole positions in Saturday’s qualifying practices, was the first to reach the finish line in both races today.

In race 1 Pier Guidi was challenged by Swedish driver Sundberg, but this was only during the first lap. After that, the Italian driver left all his adversaries behind and finished the race alone. The two other places on the podium were occupied by Richard Meaden (second place) and Sundberg, who had to fight until the last curves to defend third place from a combative Pat Blakeney.

During the afternoon’s second race the Italian driver indulged in a second win, never giving up the lead despite the safety car’s appearance three laps prior to the end to allow for the removal of Roberto Sperati’s car, which had gotten stuck in a hazardous part of the track. The incident contributed to compacting the group and when the race resumed, the duel for third place between Necchi and Blakeney continued. Necchi had the worst of it, as in attempting to overtake Blakeney, he exited the track and was forced out of the race. There were therefore two Englishmen behind Pier Guidi at the finish line: Meaden, who earned second place, and Blakeney.

Alessandro Pier Guidi: “It’s definitely a very good moment in my career: every time I get behind the wheel of a Maserati GranTurismo MC, I manage to win. After the two wins at Paul Ricard in the GT4 European Cup two weeks ago, today I’ve won twice again, this time in the Trofeo Maserati. Let’s hope the winning streak continues.”

Richard Meaden: “Two second places are a great outcome. Perhaps race 1 was more exciting. I started out from fourth place instead of third because race authorities sent me back one position for having gotten the best qualifying race time while the yellow flag was out. I did try to catch up to and pass Alessandro Pier Guidi but he was really too fast. In race two I started out from second place and I concluded the race just behind the winner.”

Tonight at midnight (GMT +1) Eurosport will broadcast highlights of the Brands Hatch races in the Motorsport Weekend show, while a detailed summary will be aired on Thursday 22 July at 6.30 pm (GMT +1) on Eurosport 2.

The fourth round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC is scheduled for the 1st of August at Brno, Czech Republic
