Jonah Lomu, the thirty-four year old of Tongan origin, is universally considered the ideal shape and size for playing on the wing. Voted player of the year in 1995, Lomu did not have any trouble fitting his huge frame into the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S. He made use of the car as his country's team took on the Italians in a rugby friendly. Lomu especially appreciated the speed of the sportiest version of Maserati’s flagship model. He had the chance to test this out on the trip between Marseille and Milan.
Lomu underwent a kidney transplant in 2004 and made a comeback to rugby in 2006. He decided to join the squad in Marseille this time around. This is not the first time that rugby and Maserati have teamed up: the Bergamasco brothers, Mauro and Mirco, Andrea Lo Cicero and Marco Bortolomi have often used cars produced by the Modenese company.
