Tour of Italy 5,000
2000 saw Maserati embark upon a World Tour in stages with two production 3200 GTs. The Endurance 100,000, as it was known, kicked off with the Canada 10,000 Tour before the cars moved on to the United States driving down as far as Monterey.

Next stop was France for the Tour de France. On February 21 last, they set off from Modena on the Tour of Italy 5000 which wrapped up on March 20 after a total of 5,000 kilometres. From Modena, the two Maseratis drove to Liguria before driving down along the Mediterranean coastline to Sicily.

They then made their way back up along the Adriatic coast to Trieste. From there they drove down through Brescia back to Modena, tracing the old Mille Miglia route as they went. At each one of the 30 stages, different journalists from various publications took over behind the wheels of the two 3200 GTs (each one was powered by a 370bhp turbo-charged V8 engine with a six-speed manual gearbox).

Both cars were strictly production models with no modifications made to them whatsoever. Michelin played host to the participants en route in restaurants and hotels listed in its famous guide. The cars were then moved to Japan at the end of June for the 5,000-km Tour of Japan.
