Maserati Quattroporte 2.8i V6 Evo
The Evoluzione version of the Quattroporte Serie IV stood out thanks to the overall improvement of its components and the extensive optimisation of countless details, from the mechanical components to the bodywork to its interior.
The exterior of the Quattroporte “Evo” differed from that of the previous series; differences included the design of its wing mirrors and wheel rims, as well as other distinct yet finer details that gave the car its modern, attractive style. The engine sizes remained the same as those used for the ’94 series; the two 2000 and 2800cc engines of the V6 and the V8’s 3200 engine were introduced in 1996. If the two-litre engine remained the range’s “entry level”, then the 2.8 litre engine (AM 574 type), which was also used to power several of the Ghibli versions, offered first-rate characteristics in terms of power and gear flexibility, thanks to a peak torque output of 42.1 kgm at 3500 rpm.
If, having sold 668 cars, the 1994 Quattroporte 2.8 model was the most popular version of the pre-restyling series, then the 2.8 Evo was the rarest version of the 1998 generation, having sold just 190 cars: the qualities of the 3.2 V8, which was presented in 1996, led increasing numbers of clients to opt for the largest engine size.
