From virtual races to the track!

23/06/2012 - Imola
The step from virtual racing to the track now seems pretty small, at least for Luca Lorenzini.

The young journalist from Mantova is racing alongside his director, Alberto Sabatini, the man who has run Autosprint for years.

"This is my first track experience. Up until 2010 all I did was race on consoles. I took part in a Playstation competition, held in partnership with a car producer, and it allowed my to get my hands on a competition licence as I managed to get to the final stages and race on the track in England. I still had the desire to race when I came back to Italy and, despite the cost involved, I was able to do it and this was satisfying".

Despite everything, you showed you felt at home in the GranTurismo...

"It's true: I did feel right at home in the car. I was able to handle it well and it didn't have any odd responses. Obviously you have to be careful because it is heavy and the tyres can suffer. It was my first time in the Trofeo and in a Maserati but this didn't hold me back and I managed to set some decent lap times: I set the second best time in qualifying for Race 1. I am really happy with how things have turned out considering the level of the drivers who have experience of international competition".

What is your opinion of the championship?

"I can't not be satisfied. Everyone looks after you, from the hospitality to the mechanics. It is a pity that it is just the one race; I hope to get back in a GranTurismo MC Trofeo soon. The format is great too. I like the three-race programme: the drivers have the chance to drive from start to finish and, in the endurance events with a driver change, the team spirit kicks in. It is all about finding the right balance".
