Patience is a virtue, goes the proverb. Patience is a quality that the new Trofeo Maserati champion, David Baldi, displayed a lot of this weekend. The Tuscan made mathematically sure of the title with one round to go thanks to dropping some low scoring rounds.
After a great start at Imola with a one-two, Baldi has raced a perfect season. He has won six races and always driven intelligently, been focused and with his eye firmly on the prize. He claimed the overall win despite the combined efforts of Gaetano Ardagna and Nicolò Piancastelli who, from Hungary on, showed that he could really handle the Trofeo.
At Vallelunga, as in the previous two rounds, Baldi didn’t appear to be the quickest driver on the track but he was the most solid. It is no coincidence that Baldi’s decisive drives came at Valencia and at Vallelunga. It is a deserved victory and comes courtesy of Baldi’s patience.
