Nick Catsburg

Post Race 1 press conference, Trofeo category

26/06/2011 - Spa
Nick Catsburg:“It was a really long race and, even though it was my first time in a Maserati, I didn’t have any problems and I had a lot of fun”.

Nick Catsburg: “It was a fantastic race and I am overjoyed. At the start, I realised that a few of the other drivers were quicker than me but I stayed calm so that the tyres didn’t suffer too much. It was a really long race and, even though it was my first time in a Maserati, I didn’t have any problems and I had a lot of fun. There was a big gap to the other drivers but I don’t think it was down to a difference in ability. I believe it comes down to my greater experience of racing and my knowledge of this circuit”.

Manuel Villa
: “Spa is like the University of Driving. It is a place that is full of memories for me. I am pleased to have made it to the finish after the problems I had at Monza. It was important to finish and make it onto the podium. Let’s say that I was the first of the ‘human drivers’: I have to congratulate Nick Catsburg for the way he approached the race. Nick taught us all a lesson and showed how results are obtained through dedication. If I want to improve on the track, I have to leave rallying behind. This would be a major decision for me and I am not sure I want to take that step. The Dutchman also showed the true worth of the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo. As for my effort, I didn’t have any particular problems apart from in the first few laps when the car wasn’t that stable, especially in the slower curves. I think that this was my fault because I didn’t wait for the tyres to come up to temperature. I later managed to warm them up and went on to do my best”.

Nicolò Piancastelli
: “I was an eventful race and one that ended happily for me as I made the podium at a testing track like Spa. We drove the track in the wet and then in the dry and, I have to admit, I didn’t have too many problems apart from early on when I mistimed a braking point. Maybe this was because the tyres weren’t warm enough. Soon after the start, I tried to make up ground on Manuel Villa while also battling Gaetano Ardagna for third. Then I clashed with Ardagna who was behind me and we both slipped a few places, with him getting a drive-through. I then started my bid to catch David Baldi. We swapped places a few times and then, at the end of the Kemmel straight, we left the braking as late as possible. David forced me onto the grass and I lost control and collided with him. We both got going again and I ended up third. In my opinion, it is one of those things that happens in a race”.
