25/06/2011 - Spa
Mathijs Bakker: "I will be going for a podium spot tomorrow but it will be important to look after the car and tyres".

David Baldi: It is great being here at Spa. This is one of the best and most famous circuits in Europe. As a fan of anything with an engine, I am over the moon to be here. As for qualifying, I have to admit that I hate wet conditions because I can’t take the car to the limit. This, together with the fact that I don’t know the circuit, makes it all even harder. I was happy with the qualifying session but it will be tougher finishing on the podium tomorrow. So, my aim is to enjoy taking on the splendid curves here at Spa”.

Cedric Sbirrazzuoli: "It was tricky settling into the right rhythm, maybe because I am racing with Alessandro Chionna and so cover fewer laps compared to some other drivers. I always aim to drive on the limit even though this is hard to do at Eau Rouge. Perhaps I could have gone even faster but the yellow flag came out on the rolling lap. Still, it wasn't a problem. I am happy with this first overall pole position and hope it turns into a win".

Mathijs Bakker: I have raced at Spa in different conditions but this is the first time I have driven here in the rain. This is my second race in a GT4 category car and so it wasn’t easy. I haven’t had the chance to get into a racing car since appearing at Imola and so I had to get back into the swing of things. Qualifying could have gone better. I was gradually upping the tempo when I had a car ahead of me at Eau Rouge-Radillon. With the spray it kicked up, it was impossible for me to see anything. Once I had got past, I wanted to go for it on the next lap but, unfortunately, the yellow flag came out. I will be going for a podium spot tomorrow but it will be important to look after the car and tyres”.

Manuel Villa: Catsburg impressed me in the first session; it is obvious he knows the circuit well. I was in his slipstream for a while and so had a chance to see how he takes a really unusual line through the curves. I have raced here before but with a car that performed differently and that had a different weight. Still, the experience came in handy as I was able defend myself better than other Trofeo drivers. In the second session, I tried to go for it more but took too many risks and spun off twice. Luckily, I managed to avoid damaging the car and set a decent lap time. I have to take my hat off to Sbirrazzuoli as he drove brilliantly. As for me, I am pleased at starting on the front row in both races. I only hope that things don’t turn out like that did at Monza and that, after five straight front row spots, it is my turn to take a win. If I do end up winning I could continue this season and, who knows, start challenging for the overall lead”.
