Mathijs Bakker (7th overall): “I started in twentieth place but got off to a good start.

By turn one I had already overtaken five other drivers. After a few laps I was up to tenth and chasing a group who were battling each other. I opted to steer clear, preserve the tyres and not make any mistakes. In the end I decided to join the mix and, as I don’t know the track, I ended up spinning when I was in sixth. Overall, I am very pleased with the result and for the progress made over the weekend”.

Gaetano Ardagna (15th overall): “It was a very good start and I had climbed a few places by the first turn. I then tracked the leaders because I didn’t want to take any risks. This allowed me to make the most of any errors made by drivers ahead of me and I climbed into fourth. I made a small mistake at Villeneuve, when chasing Smurra, and Piancastelli got past me. I then saw that Sbirrazzuoli was closing in aggressively and so I let him past as he competes in another category; I did the same with Casé even though he clipped me at Tosa. As things stood, I was too far off Villa in third and I had a decent advantage over the cars behind me so I was pretty relaxed. Unfortunately, Casé spun at Rivazza and, in doing so, collided with me as I was going past. I tried to brake hard but couldn’t avoid the impact”.

Emanuele Smurra (6th overall): “It was an exciting, hard-fought but clean race. We took on Ardagna and I managed to hold off a chasing pack that was really going for it. Then someone clipped me from the rear at Villeneuve and I spun. I then tried to make a comeback but knew that a top-three finish was out of reach. I think the podium would have been impossible today in any case because we were both out of tyres. Still I was able to hold my own. It was a shame but you pay for your mistakes…”.

Nicolò Piancastelli (5th overall): “Let me start by saying it was really enjoyable. I can say this even after making two big errors that compromised what could have been a fantastic result. I managed to get back into the mood and pick up my pace after the early mistake and finished fast even on worn out tyres. I start from sixth in Race 2 and hope to improve”.
Alexander Wensky (10th overall): “It was an ideal start: the conditions were good and the track was dry; you couldn’t ask for more. I tried to stay on the track early on and to keep the tyres in good shape. I paid for a mistake made over the first few laps and I found myself driving alone for a while. I made the most of it and got to know the car a little better and tried to pinpoint reference points. Towards the end it was impossible to overtake because the yellow flag was shown.

I crossed the line tenth overall and eighth in my category so I am pleased. In Race 2 I will be starting from ninth and my aim is to at least maintain that position”.
