Pre-championship test and race simulation for Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo

The Trofeo Maserati came alive this weekend with two days of testing at the Vallelunga circuit, close to Rome.

Over sixteen drivers from three different countries tested on the 4,085 metre Lazio track. The aim was to prepare for the opening round of the season at Monza on 22-23 May.

The session was a useful one as it allowed both Trofeo and GT4 drivers to learn how their cars handled in the different conditions. Heavy rain came down on Saturday morning and this brought the Pirelli wet weather tyres into play. Things brightened up in the afternoon and meant that the drivers could reach for slicks.

In perfect conditions on the Sunday, with a dry surface and warm temperatures, it was time for a simulation of qualifying and the race, just as they would be run under current regulations.

Emanuele Smurra, the first-ever winner of Maserati's single make series, was an interested face in the crowd. Also at Vallenlunga was Radio Monte Carlo journalist, Paolo Ciccarone.

There was also time dedicated to test driving models from the Maserati range, including the splendid GranCabrio. Some clients also took the chance to run a few free laps in the MC12 Versione Corse with three-time FIA GT champion, Andrea Bertolini, at the wheel.
