Two races were all that was needed. Fielded by one of the most experienced squads on the American sporting scene, Doran Racing, and with gentleman drivers Fredy Lienhard and Didier Theys on board, the Maserati MC12 lived up to its billing at the Generac 500 and at Petit Le Mans.

Admittedly, the competition for the Modenese car was not as stiff as in 2005 but just the presence of the official Corvette team was enough to generate interest. The Corvette has been almost uncatchable since 2005 but was a second adrift in qualifying for Petit Le Mans. For the race, Andrea Bertolini was on hand to let Lienhard and Theys in on all his knowledge about the MC12.

So, a season that kicked off in a low gear has picked up with Maserati collecting the first pole position and second spot at Petit Le Mans.
