1998 to 2001

The Quattroporte Evoluzione, introduced to the market in 1998, retained the three engine sizes of the 1994 version; of course, this also included the powerful, range topping 3200cc V8 engine (AM 578 type). This engine was introduced in 1996, when it joined the two existing 2000 and 2800cc V6 engines. With 335hp at 6400 rpm and outstanding torque values (45.8 kgm at 4400 rpm, no less), the V8 guaranteed astounding performance for a 1560 kg vehicle (1584 kg in the automatic version).

Extremely flexible and silent at cruising speed, the steady power delivered by its 3.2 litre engine had all the feel of a thoroughbred sports car and a sound which roused stirring emotions. The 400 or so improvements carried out on the Evo version made it a viable alternative to the German and British flagship sport saloons: the interior was even more luxurious with its new stereo system, improved ergonomics (arm rests, compartments, controls, etc.), improved legibility of instrumentation, and so forth.

From its debut in 1996 the 3.2 litre V8 became the favourite choice among Quattroporte aficionados: in the two-year period from ’96-’98 in which the first version was produced, 415 3.2 litre versions were sold. Between 1998 and 2001 the 3.2 V8 was the best-selling Quattroporte with 340 cars delivered compared to 200 and 190 cars of the 2000cc and 2800cc versions respectively.
